History
Oak Grove Cemetery is located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, within two municipalities, Freedom Borough and New Sewickley Township. Robert McCaskey, Philip Bentel, William Waggoner, James Parks, Abram McDonald, and Isaac Black of the Borough of Freedom filed the Articles of Incorporation in the Beaver County Courthouse on March 14, 1863, and the cemetery has been serving the community ever since. The cemetery property encompasses approximately four acres.
The cemetery is rich in history and is the final resting place for more than seven thousand individuals, including more than six hundred veterans, some of whom date back to the Revolutionary War. Through the years, the cemetery has been frequented by many visitors researching genealogy and history.

Mission
Oak Grove Cemetery’s mission is to represent the community, as a not-for-profit cemetery, for past, present, and future generations by managing and maintaining a safe and serene cemetery environment; and by providing interment services for our families, neighbors, and friends.
Oak Grove’s long-term vision is to continue being a place that is respectful of the passing of life; to remain a peaceful environment where a person may grieve, meditate, and heal; to maintain stewardship of Oak Grove Cemetery’s historic heritage; and to commemorate veterans of many wars.

Looking forward
Oak Grove Cemetery is proud of its past but is also aware that it must institute and maintain current practices to secure the stability and longevity of the cemetery. With this in mind, the cemetery is currently in the process of digitizing all of the handwritten records, dating back to 1863, to ensure their preservation, is developing an online presence through this website, and is reaching out to develop relationships with other community organizations.

Volunteer opportunities
As a community cemetery, Oak Grove looks to the community for support, specifically in ways to honor the veterans interred here. Various opportunities to serve in this way are available, including placing flags on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Veterans’ Day. We hope to learn more about the veterans and the history of others who are buried in the oldest parts of the cemetery. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact us through this website or by email at oakgrove1863@gmail.com. Please include a description of how you may be willing to volunteer. We appreciate your willingness to serve.
