Rules and Regulations

  • For Lot Owners.

    1. All interments in lots shall be restricted to the members of the family and relations of the lot owners.
    2. Enter at your own risk.
    3. Anyone performing work at the cemetery or for grave owners must have a subcontractor release form from Oak Grove Cemetery.
    4. The proprietors of lots and their families shall have access to the grounds, subject to the rules and regulations that are or may hereafter be adopted for the observance of visitors.
    5. Persons desiring to purchase a lot(s) will contact Oak Grove Cemetery, and when a selection is made, the purchaser shall pay in full and receive a deed bearing the cemetery’s seal.
    6. No certificate of title or deed to any grave lot in this cemetery shall be issued until the purchase money is paid in full. No special agreements between officers and lot owners shall be made.
    7. The cemetery will withhold fifteen percent of lot sales proceeds for a perpetual care fund as mandated by Pennsylvania law (see Perpetual Care statement).
    8. Lot owners are entitled, as stated on their deed, “to the use of said lot for the purpose of human sepulture alone, subject to the provisions of a Charter granted by the Court of Beaver County, to incorporate the Oak Grove Cemetery Company, near Freedom, in the County of Beaver, approved the 9th day of March, A. D. 1863, as well as to the By-Laws, Rules, and Regulations that are or may hereafter be adopted by the said Company, and transferable only on its Books.”
    9. Whenever interments are to be made, timely notice thereof must be given to Oak Grove Cemetery, either electronically or in writing. Information must be given specifying the name, age, sex of the person to be interred and the deed, section, and lot numbers. Vaults are required for all interments.
    10. The proprietor of any lot may have erected thereon by an approved monument company any proper stone or monument of indestructible material provided that no head or marker shall exceed five feet in height. Flowers are permitted but must be planted no further than eighteen inches from the front of the headstone. Shrubs and trees are not permitted.
    11. If any monument or any inscription or device be in or on any lot which at any meeting of the trustees for the time being shall be deemed offensive or improper, the trustees shall have the right, and it shall be their duty, to enter upon such lot and remove such offensive or improper object or item.

  • For Lot Owners (cont.)

    12. If any tree or shrub situated in or near any lot shall by reason of its roots or branches or otherwise become detrimental, dangerous, or inconvenient to the adjacent lot, walks, or avenues, the trustees have the right, and it shall be their duty, to enter upon such lot and remove such part or parts of trees or shrubs as they may deem detrimental, dangerous or inconvenient.
    13. All monuments or stones will be governed by the following regulations to prevent the excessive and unsightly crowding of monuments. Not more than one monument will be allowed on a single lot and no more than one marker be placed at any grave, and that grave marker or foot stone must be placed at the end of the grave farthest from the monument and must be flush. No abutting corner posts are allowed, and curbing, sills and enclosures of any kind are prohibited. All corner stones must be installed flush with the ground. All foundations must meet current and standard monument requirements.
    14. To maintain solemn ground, at no time shall it be permitted to place fence, metal edging, glassware, bricks, toys, pinwheels, inflatables, stuffed animals, balloons, shells, stones, artificial decorations, etc., on any grave. The cemetery is not responsible for items placed on any grave. The cemetery board has the right to remove anything that is not approved.
    15. Due to the extreme age of the graves located in the First Part and sections A, B, and C of the cemetery, cremains only may currently be buried in those areas.
    16. No lot owner is permitted to enter the cemetery except through the gates.
    17. No lot owner shall impede, interfere with, or harass any person carrying out their duties for the maintenance, upkeep, and/or governance of the cemetery.
    18. No lot owner will be permitted to use boisterous, profane, or obscene language, indulge in any disorderly conduct whatsoever, or in any way disturb the quiet or good order of the cemetery.
    19. All lot owners are reminded that these grounds are sacredly devoted to the burial of the dead and that the provisions and penalties of the law as provided by statues of Pennsylvania will be strictly enforced in all cases of wanton injury, disturbance, or the disregarding of these rules.
    20. The trustees are charged with the execution of these rules and regulations.

  • For Visitors.

    1. Visitors shall be admitted to the grounds daily from dawn until dusk.
    2. All visitors are expected to respect the solemnity of the cemetery and strictly observe the rules established by the trustees for the purpose of always securing quiet and good order within the cemetery.
    3. All persons are prohibited from plucking any flowers whether wild or cultivated or injuring any monument or tombstone, land marker or other object in said cemetery.
    4. No person is permitted to enter the cemetery except through the gates.
    5. No person shall impede, interfere with, or harass any person carrying out their duties for the maintenance, upkeep, and/or governance of the cemetery.
    6. No person will be permitted to use boisterous, profane, or obscene language, indulge in any disorderly conduct whatsoever, or in any way disturb the quiet or good order of the cemetery.
    7. All persons are reminded that these grounds are sacredly devoted to the burial of the dead and that the provisions and penalties of the law as provided by statues of Pennsylvania will be strictly enforced in all cases of wanton injury, disturbance, or the disregarding of these rules.

  • For Columbarium Owners.

    1. To maintain a solemn atmosphere, at no time shall it be permitted to place flowers, flags glassware, toys, pinwheels, inflatables (balloons, etc.), stuffed animals, shells, stones, artificial decorations, pictures, etc. on or near the columbariums.
    2. The cemetery is not responsible for items placed on or near the columbariums, and the cemetery trustees have the right to remove anything that has not been approved by the Board of Trustees.
    3. Columbarium owners are subject to the same rules and regulations as lot owners.
